The Program
Our Teaching English to Monks program in Chiang Mai offers volunteer a chance to make an important contribution to the monks at the Temple and to gain an in depth experience of the country and its culture that will stay with you the rest of your life!
Chiang Mai is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province. It is located some 700 km north of Bangkok, among some of the highest mountains in the country. You will be met at the airport of Chiang Mai. There are daily flights from Bangkok to Chiangmai at very low prices with airlines such as Air Asia. There are also several daily buses from Bangkok to Chiangmai every day. At the end of your program we will drop you off at the airport for your onward travel.
We offer great flexibility to our volunteers. You can join the program from 1 week up to 24 weeks. With this program in you can start every Sunday throughout the year. You need to arrive at the latest on the Sunday when your program starts. You can arrive earlier if you want and pay for extra nights accommodation which we can arrange for you. Your program also includes and airport pickup and drop off at the end of the program, a city tour of Chiang Mai and a visit to the famous Chiang Mai Night Market.
The temple is located in downtown Chiang Mai City close to the guesthouse where you will be staying. You will teach English to monks at the temple school. The teaching hours are from 08.30 to 11.30 and 12.30 to 16.30. The school is be closed on Sunday and also on Buddhist day. Each week will the school will have one Buddhist day which is decided by the monks according to Buddhist traditions. On the other days you will be able to teach.
You will stay in a guesthouse in central Chiang Mai City where you will have your own single room with private bathroom. The guesthouse is very convenient as it is downtown Chiang Mai and it is also easy to get to the orphanage. There is free WIFI internet available at the guesthouse. Program Requirements
The minimum age for joining the program is 17. There are no specific qualifications needed to join the volunteer program in Thailand . Volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient as well as possess a passion and love for children.

What's included:
• Airport pickup and Drop Off : Upon the receipt of the flight information we will meet you at the airport in Chiang Mai. And at the end of your program we will provide a drop off at the airport.
• Accommodation : You will stay in a guesthouse in central Chiang Mai City where you will have your own single room with private bathroom.
• Tour of Chiang Mai : Your Coordinator will show you around Chiang Mai.
• In-country transportation : We will take you to the orphanage the first time. After that volunteers are responsible for daily transportation to and from the orphanage. Your coordinator will explain how to get around during your orientation.
• Support : From the very beginning to the end of the project your local WLS Coordinator will co-ordinate your program and support you during your program.
• Emergency Support : WLS International provides volunteers with the mobile phone of your local coordinator so that volunteers and their family members can contact our coordinator in the event of an emergency or crisis.
• Certificate of Completion : Upon completion of your respective service project, participants receive a certificate upon request illustrating their contributed time.
• Pre-departure information : We help you with any questions that you have regarding your program before you leave.
The prices of our programs also cover the cost of researching, visiting the projects, advertising and promotion costs, office expenses and staff at our head office and local staff.
What's not included : international flight, meals, travel insurance, visa and daily transport to the project.
