The Program

Our volunteer program in Delhi, India is a great experience with different projects available for a wonderful volunteering experience in India with volunteering opportunities available in an orphanage, teaching English and health work in the Delhi rural suburbs.

The programs are located in Delhi NCR in the south of Delhi. We offer great flexibility to our volunteer as our volunteer program in Delhi starts on any date of your choice throughout the year. You can join the program from 1 week up to 24 weeks. You can start the program on any date of your choice throughout the year. At the beginning of the program you will be picked up from the airport in New Delhi. You will then be taken to your accommodation. After that you will be introduced to your projects to start your volunteering.

All meals are included in the program. There are 3 meals per day. Volunteers will stay in either a homestay or a volunteer accommodation. At the homestay accommodation you will live with a local Indian homestay family with other volunteers. Staying with a family will give you the opportunity to learn about the Indian way of life and meet the local people. Volunteers can expect to share a room with other volunteers but in some home stays volunteers get their own room. Volunteers should bring a mosquito net and a sleeping bag. Volunteers working in the orphanage program are provided volunteer accommodation on the orphanage premises.

 

Itinerary

The following is a basic guide to what a typical volunteer schedule can look like.

Monday-Friday
On the first day of the volunteering placement volunteers will be taken to their volunteering project and introduced to the staff at the project you will be working with. This is an example of a typical day.
7.30 am : Breakfast with the homestay family or at the volunteer accommodation
9.00 am - 4.30 pm : Volunteer starts their volunteer work. Around noon there is a lunch break. The working hours depend on the project that the volunteer is participating in.
8.30 pm : Dinner with the homestay family.
Weekends : During the weekend, volunteers have free time to relax or take the opportunity to explore the area.

Program Location

Delhi, the third largest city of India is a fusion of the ancient and the modern. The capital city, Delhi, unwinds a picture rich with culture, architecture and human diversity, deep in history, monuments, museums, galleries and gardens. The projects are located in the south of Delhi.

 

Program Requirements

The minimum age for joining the program is 18. There are no specific qualifications needed to join the volunteer program in India . Volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient as well as possess a passion for helping others.

 

Volunteer Projects

We have these different projects available :

1. Working at an orphanage
This placement is suitable for volunteers who wish to share their love and compassion for orphans and deaf small children. The placement is sure to provide numerous opportunities to serve these children. All activities at the center are related to taking care of these children. Though India has been surpassing its development goals, poverty still remains a serious problem, mostly affecting children. As a volunteer you will share your time, energy and skills to support these children and show them the path for a better tomorrow.

The Orphanage where you will be working has been working for the welfare of orphans, disabled, deaf and slum children for many years. The orphanage offers accommodation, food and education to the children. Volunteers assist the children with their education by giving English lessons, assisting with homework and helping with general education skills such as personal hygiene. Volunteers also help with general work and daily chores. This work ranges from cooking and cleaning to assisting with feeding the children and caring for the children and babies.

Volunteers stay in the volunteer accommodation at the orphanage sharing a room with other volunteers. You need to bring a mosquito net and a sleeping bag.

2. Teaching English at a School
You will be volunteering at a school for poor and deprived children. The school has around 200 students. They have been working for the welfare of children for more than 10 years. These are children who are disadvantaged, abandoned, destitute or physically challenged. In India, English is still required for better job opportunities. This is why volunteers are required to this field. Volunteers do not have to be a qualified or experienced teacher.

The school holiday is in June during which time this program is not available.

Your accommodation is with a homestay family. You will be sharing a room with other volunteers. You need to bring a mosquito net and a sleeping bag.

3. Health Project
We work with different hospitals and a mobile ambulance in this project. Volunteers participating in this program will work as health assistants to nurses and doctors caring for patients, taking their temperature and blood pressure, observing operations, checking on patients and helping with administration. Although no previous background is required, volunteers who plan to study medicine or who have already have begun their medical or nursing studies are best suited for this project. Volunteer tasks will depend on capacity and skills.

We have arranged your accommodation at a homestay family. You will be sharing a room with other volunteers. You need to bring a mosquito net and a sleeping bag.

Certificate of Completion
Upon completion of your respective service project, participants receive a certificate upon request illustrating their contributed time.

We help you with any questions that you have regarding your program before you leave.

The prices of our programs also cover the cost of researching, visiting the projects, advertising and promotion costs, office expenses and staff at our head office and local staff.

Not included in the prices is your flight, insurance, visa, personal expenses and daily transport to the project.
