Volunteering projects in Thailand are available for anyone interested in volunteering in the developing world. The volunteering projects are located in Chiang Mai. Our volunteering programs in Thailand allow you to take part in meaningful volunteering work whilst discovering the people and the culture of Thailand. Volunteering whilst traveling is a great way to totally immerse yourself in the local culture and to give back and make a difference in the development of the country and its people.

Our Orphanage volunteering program in Chiang Mai offers volunteer a chance to make an important contribution to the people of Thailand, and to gain an in depth experience of the country and its culture that will stay with you the rest of your life!
Chiang Mai is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province. It is located some 700 km north of Bangkok, among some of the highest mountains in the country. You will be met at the airport of Chiang Mai. There are daily flights from Bangkok to Chiang Mai at very low prices with airlines such as Air Asia. There are also several daily buses from Bangkok to Chiang Mai every day. At the end of your program we will drop you off at the airport for your onward travel.
We offer great flexibility to our volunteers. With our Volunteer Program in Chiang Mai you can start every Sunday throughout the year. You need to arrive at the latest on the Sunday when your program starts. You can arrive earlier if you want and book extra nights accommodation which we can arrange for you. Your program also includes and airport pickup and drop off at the end of the program, a city tour of Chiang Mai and a visit to the famous Chiang Mai Night Market.
You will stay in a hotel in central Chiang Mai City where you will have your own single room with a private bathroom. The hotel is very convenient as it is downtown Chiang Mai and it is also easy to get to the orphanage. There is free wifi internet available at the hotel. For pictures of the hotel click here.

Weekly Itinerary
Sunday
Arrival in Chiang Mai and pick up from the airport by our Country Manager Ms Prachit. Relax from your journey and in the evening visit to the famous Chiang Mai Night Market.
Monday to Friday
Today you will start your volunteering work at the orphanage. Ms Prachit will bring you to the Orphanage and help you to get started with your volunteer work. From Monday to Friday you will work at the orphanage. These are some of the activities that you can take part in : taking care of the children, organize activities with the children and playing with the children.
Saturday
You will have a city tour of Chiang Mai. Transport to the airport and continue with your onwards journey. If you stay longer then a week then you will have weekends off to explore Chiang Mai and the area.

About The Orphanage
The orphanage in Chiang Mai where you will do your volunteering is the home for orphaned children in the Northern Region of Thailand caring for babies and children. The orphanage is located about 20 minutes from the hotel where you will be staying in downtown Chiang Mai. The orphanage cares for more than 600 children. It includes orphaned children, children who have been abandoned or abused and children whose families cannot support them anymore. The orphanage also takes in children that have been found abandoned and they also care for children from broken homes or families who are no longer are able to support them. There are also HIV and AIDS infected children that the orphanage cares for.
Volunteering activities at this orphanage may include :
• Teaching English to the children
• Practice conversational English
• Interacting with the children, giving confidence and acting as a role model to them
• Playing games with the children and singing songs with them
The aim of the orphanage is to provide the children loving care that a child needs and would normally receive from its parents.

Program Requirements
The minimum age for joining the program is 17. There are no specific qualifications needed to join the volunteer program in Thailand . Volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient as well as possess a passion and love for children.

What's included:
• Airport pickup and Drop Off : Upon the receipt of the flight information we will meet you at the airport in Chiang Mai. At the end of your program we will provide a drop off at the airport.
• Accommodation : You will stay in a hotel in central Chiang Mai City where you will have your own single room with a private bathroom.
• Tour of Chiang Mai : Your Coordinator will show you around Chiang Mai.
• In-country transportation : We will take you to the orphanage the first time. After that volunteers are responsible for daily transportation to and from the orphanage which is very cheap with local transport. Your coordinator will explain how to get around during your orientation.
• Support : From the very beginning to the end of the project your local WLS Coordinator will coordinate your program and support you during your program.
• Emergency Support : WLS International provides volunteers with the mobile phone of your local coordinator so that volunteers and their family members can contact our coordinator in the event of an emergency or crisis.
• Certificate of Completion : Upon completion of your respective service project, participants receive a certificate upon request illustrating their contributed time.
• Pre-departure information : We help you with any questions that you have regarding your program before you leave.
The prices of our programs also cover the cost of researching, visiting the projects, advertising and promotion costs, office expenses and staff at our head office and local staff.
What's not included : international flight, meals, travel insurance, visa and daily transport to the project.
